Geschichte Kretas

Die alte Zivilisation von Kreta erhielt die Bezeichnung minoisch von dem britischen Archäologen Sir Arthur Evans, der 1900 begann, die Überreste auszugraben.
Er glaubte, daß schattenartige Erinnerungen an diese Zivilisation hinter dem griechischen Mythos von Minos standen, dem Sohn des Zeus und der Europe, der König von Kreta war und ein stierköpfiges Ungeheuer, den Minotaurus, in einem Labyrinth gefangenhielt.


History of Crete

The Ancient civilization of Crete was called minoan by the British archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans, who started to excavate in Crete in 1900. He discovered the ancient ruins from which stem the myths of Minos the King of Crete and supposed son of Zeus, and that of the Minotaur kept imprisoned in the labyrinth.
