Heraklion

Heraklion ist die Haupstadt des gleichnamigen Bezirkes und seit 1972 die Hauptstadt von ganz Kreta. Mit seiner Einwohnerzahl von 110.000 ist sie die größte Stadt der Insel.

Die Stadt ist zweigeteilt. Im modernen Teil der Stadt befinden sich die Geschäfte, Einkaufsstraßen und Büros, während Sie im alten Stadtviertel durch die kleinen Sträßchen wandern und venezianische Bauwerke, als auch den Markt finden können.

Die Altstadt Heraklions ist umschlossen von der berühmten venezianischen Mauer (1462) von der aus Sie einen Panoramablick über die ganze Stadt genießen können.

Iraklio

Iraklio is the capital of the prefecture of the same name and, since 1972 capital of Crete. With its polulation of 110,000 inhabitants Iraklio is the largest city of the island.

The city itself consists of teo parts: the new town, with its modern shops, and busy squares, and the old town, with its venetian fountains, the Loggia, its markets and its alleys.

The ancien town of Iraklio is surrounded by the famous Venetian Wall (1462) and from there the view over Iraklio is panoramic.
