Zaros

Zaros liegt ca. 50 km südlich von Heraklion.

Zaros bedeutes: "Ort des Wassers". Das gesamte Wasser kommt aus Bergquellen und wird in der Fabrik in Zaros in Flaschen umgefüllt. Das "Zaros-Wasser" ist auf der ganzen Insel bekannt. Der Zaros-See (Foto 1+2) ist umgeben von Olivenbäumen und dort beginnt auch der Pfad zur bekannten Rouvas-Schlucht. (4. Foto)

Um den See kann man einen Rundgang machen und im Restaurant recht gut essen oder die einzigste Forellenzucht (Foto 6) der Insel besichtigen

Zaros bietet sich auch als idealer Ausgangspunkt für Erkundungen der Südhänge des Psiloritis und des Amari-Tals an. Vier sehr sehenswerte Kloster befinden sich in der näheren Umgebung von Zaros und die 1-4 stündigen Wanderungen dorthin gehören zu den schönsten Touren auf Kreta.

Zaros

Zaros is approx 50km south of Iraklion.

Zaros means: ‘place of many waters’. All our water comes from mountain springs, we have a water-bottling factory and Zaros water is famous all over the island. There is a beautiful lake (pict 1+2) set amidst olive & carob trees at the foot of one of the most spectacular rouvas-gorges (pict 4)on the island.

It is possible to walk around the sea and to have a good meal in the located restaurant or to visit the only trout-breeding (pict 6) of the island

Zaros presents itself also as ideal starting point for investigations of the south slopes of the Psiloritis and the Amari valley. Four monastery very worth seeing are in the closer environment of Zaros and the 1-4 hour migrations there belong to the most beautiful routes on Crete
