Preveli Palm Beach

Preveli Palm Beach

Preveli is a palm-lined sandy beach on the south coast of the of Crete. It is located in the municipality of Agios Vasilios of the Rethymno Regional District, not far from Moni Preveli Monastery, whose name passed to him.

Behind the beach forms the Megalopotamos, a mountain stream also called Kourtaliotis coming from the Kouroupa Mountains, the small pond or lake of Preveli (Greek Λíμνη Πρέβελη Limni Preveli), which extends into the ravine behind. The Cretan date palm (Phoenix theophrasti) forms a natural palm grove in this gorge.
