DOMA

ΔΩΜΑ is a Cretan word for a flat roof and this place is THE DOMA of Matala. Welcome to our place!

The house is situated high above the majestic Matala bay, overlooking the beach, caves and the whole little picturesque town. There are three main terraces stretching over a dazzling 100 square meters of open space on three different levels. The space can accommodate various activities like yoga practice, sunbathing, taking a shower outside while enjoying breathtaking views , resting on one of the sofas, or numerous chilling areas, take a photo of yourself in a body of a mermaid, have a barbecue or sleep under the stars on a large comfortable inflammable mattress.

Or have a small party…the possibilities are endless…

The building itself is 20 square meters , but fully equipped and furnished with some unique antique items from our collection. It s made out of stone and part of it is carved into the side of the mountain creating cavities in the rock. Some of these cavities were used as places to keep bottles since the whole property was working as a bar back in the 90s.

Built in the fifties, it was renovated several times, while being rented by local hippies as well, who input their ideas into the design of the place, so it keeps the spirit of the times, and we are cautiously keeping it that way. Toilet with a hot shower is a separate small building, all in mirrors, so don’t get lost in that fractal portals there.
A summer shower outside has a mirror reflecting the beach, while you are enjoying the warm water heated just by the sun.
The ground terrace has a bamboo roof, which keeps it shady, it has a comfortable sofa and a big table, so most probably your dinners you’ll have there, though if it gets windy there’s a table inside as well, with nice chairs which initially were camel saddles, and a sofa. The elevated bed is right above the dining area, so you need to use a wooden ladder to get there, and it is a very cozy nest, we checked.)

The air-conditioner is usually not needed, as the fan which we place on the wardrobe in front of the bed is enough, but if you like it colder- go ahead with air-conditioning provided.

The kitchen area is equipped with an induction cooker, a fridge, a toaster, and a camp fire for your Greek coffee. Usually you can find some raki, coffee, olive oil and wine vinegar there always, and generally you are free to use everything you find in the kitchen counter.)

We have an antique organ piano, a drum and sometimes a kalimba in the house, so you can make a small band. Books and some table games are there for you to keep you away from your phones, though we have a Wi-Fi connection there as well.
